Wildlife Viewing

Wildlife viewing in the area is typically an opportunistic gift given while enjoying other adventures. Our experienced guides have the natural abilities and skills to know where to find and observe wildlife.

The Park supports good populations of western Canadian Moose, Mountain Goat and Osborne or Mountain Caribou. Mountain Goat and Moose are viewed right from the lodge on occasion.

Grizzly Bear sightings are becoming more common as populations are on the increase in the Province due to habitat enhancement and new management strategies. Black Bear sightings of course are always common and we have a strict waste disposal program at the lodge to discourage their help.

Wolf populations are also healthy in the park. On occasion we hear their calls at the lodge which sits in the middle of their territory. Wolverine, Pine Marten, Weasels, Mink, River Otters, Lynx, Beaver and marmots all reside in the park and the more you are out and about the greater the chance of catching a glimpse or snapping a photo.

Birding enthusiasts have opportunity to view many different species in their summer habitat. The nearby Nechako Reservoir is a nesting ground for ospreys. Bald Eagles nest and fish along the shorelines. Loons are present in large numbers in all of the lakes. There are three species of grouse in the area and Ptarmigan inhabit the alpine. Northern Flickers and Palliated woodpeckers are among the many other species of birds found in the park.
